Current status

Checked on 2026-09-06. Steam Bug Reports currently show active final-boss reports, including a phase-two freeze thread and an ascending-glitch thread. The public forum listing is enough to confirm player demand, but not enough to publish a universal fix. Older official patch notes also show that Mortal Shell II boss, hit-detection, crash, softlock, and save behavior has changed across recent patches, so final-boss advice must be tied to the installed build.

Before another attempt

Update the game, restart the client, and record your platform, version, Shell, weapon, sidearm, Tarstones, Seal, NG or NG+ state, and whether summons or special revive items are active. Keep a clip that starts before the attack or transition that freezes the fight. If the game stalls for several seconds but recovers, mark it as a freeze or hitch; if the boss becomes unreachable or the encounter cannot complete, mark it as a progression block.

Reversible checks

Try one clean attempt with overlays and capture tools closed, then one attempt with the same build but different optional summon or revive setup if those were involved. Do not change five variables at once. If the problem appears only in NG+, say that in the report. If it appears only during phase two or during an ascension/airborne state, include the exact moment in the clip.

Avoid unsafe fixes

Do not delete saves, force Cloud Sync conflicts, or rush into NG+ just to test a rumored final-boss workaround. The checked sources do not provide an official recovery path for affected final-boss saves. Preserve the save and evidence so a later patch note can be retested against the same trigger.
