Use the method only for visible lost Gloom
Patch 86328 added an official way to shoot lost Gloom with a sidearm to retrieve it and said recovery positions should be less likely to become unreachable. Patch 86845 reports further improvements to lost Gloom locations. The safest interpretation is narrow: when the recovery object is visible but direct collection is unsafe or awkward, a controlled sidearm shot is a documented option. The notes do not say that firing randomly restores missing currency, that every location is fixed, or that all sidearm interactions behave identically forever.
Pause before attempting the recovery
When you return to the failure area, stop at a safe observation point. Identify the visible Gloom, nearby enemies, ledges, and a retreat route. Avoid rushing directly toward it and creating another failure. Confirm that the game has completed the relevant patch and that you are running the retail product rather than an old Beta install. If the object is visible, take a screenshot showing its position and the nearest landmark. That evidence is useful if the sidearm method fails or the placement still appears unreachable.
Try direct collection only when the route is safe
A normal pickup remains the simplest path when there is solid ground and the approach does not expose the player to an avoidable encounter. Clear only what is necessary, preserve healing and ranged resources, and approach from the safest line. Do not attempt an uncertain jump merely because the marker looks close. The patch was designed to reduce bad placements and provide a ranged recovery option, so use that option rather than turning a geometry problem into another loss. This guide makes no claim about a universal expiration timer because the official notes do not publish one.
Use a controlled sidearm shot
If direct access is unsafe, position the camera so the visible recovery object is unobstructed and use the sidearm deliberately. Watch for the game's visible confirmation rather than assuming that the shot worked. Avoid wasting repeated ammunition when terrain blocks the line. Reposition to another safe angle and try once more. The official wording says players can shoot Gloom with a sidearm to retrieve it; it does not identify an exact distance, ammunition requirement, aim-assist behavior, or every valid firing angle. Those details must be observed in the current build.
If the Gloom is not visible
Do not fire around the area and label the absence a confirmed bug. Reconstruct the last route, check the failure location from more than one safe angle, and verify that an environmental object is not blocking the view. Record the landmark, direction of travel, platform, patch context, and whether Patch 86845 is installed. A missing marker, an unreachable visible marker, and a marker recovered without a clear animation are different reports. Keeping them separate gives official support a better chance of reproducing the correct issue.
If the sidearm method does not work
Capture a short clip or before-and-after screenshots, then leave the area without performing destructive save experiments. Verify the retail files through Steam only after the game and Steam have closed cleanly. Do not delete save folders, import Beta configuration, install an unknown mod, or repeatedly force-quit the game as a currency workaround. The patch note confirms an intended mechanic, so a reproducible failure should be reported with evidence. Include whether the projectile visibly contacted the object and whether another sidearm or angle was tested.
Protect the next attempt
Before returning to a difficult route, spend only according to the game's current systems and keep a written note of the objective, retreat landmark, and resource risk. This page does not invent banking, save, or recovery rules that official sources have not published. The actionable protection is behavioral: avoid carrying unnecessary risk into an unfamiliar branch, do not chain several unverified jumps, and stop after a failed recovery attempt to document it. Steam Cloud is listed for the retail game, but synchronization is not a promise that it can reverse an in-game loss.
Submit a useful official bug report
A strong report includes retail App ID 2584270, platform, patch or observed build, landmark, direction, screenshot or clip, whether the Gloom was visible, whether direct access was possible, sidearm used, projectile contact, and outcome. Add the exact sequence from loading the area to the failed recovery. Check the official pinned notes first so the report acknowledges fixes already shipped in 86328 and 86845. Do not attach unrelated performance tweaks. If SteamDB shows a later build, look for an official explanation and retest once before marking the guide's current workflow as obsolete.
